The Africa Day Reception hosted by Mayor Sylvester Turner is held annually to celebrate Africa and the local African community.

The goal is to strengthen ties between Houston and the local African community by re-connecting to allow a cultural exchange and support global understanding. The Africa Day Reception is part of a series of events in observance of Africa Day.

Another remarkable event where the vibrant AfroKidVenture Youth come together to make a positive impact. AfroKidVenture teens and young adults will dedicate their time and effort to volunteer at Medical Bridges, an organization committed to providing medical supplies and equipment to underserved communities.

Join us next week as we enjoy sights and sounds of Africa at the 8th Annual Houston AfriFEST - A fun festival of African arts, culture and entertainment.

The festival will hold on Saturday October 16, 2021 from 12pm to 6pm at HBU, 7502 Fondren Rd., Houston, TX 77074.

The festival will feature live cultural music and dance including artistic stage performances, African storytelling & fun safari activities for kids, family games, face painting, country displays from east to west Africa, over 60 vendors with merchant craft/artwork/made-in-Africa wares and delicious cuisine from the different regions of the continent.

Tickets are FREE for kids, students and seniors!

Cigna Sunday Streets Houston is an initiative to promote and improve the health of Houstonians. Cigna Sunday Streets Houston opens a stretch of streets normally reserved for cars and other vehicles to allow cycling, walking, dancing, socializing and provides a family-friendly opportunity to be physically active.

This program will feature college readiness experts, financial management experts, university alumni representatives, and college students who will provide comprehensive strategies to help the students make the most of their high school experience in order to achieve their college-related goals.
